For this speech you will select a topic you are passionate about and convince us we should care too. You are welcome to choose any topic you want but if it is a “hot button” topic you should meet with or message me for tips on dealing with difficult subjects. The expectations are as follows.
1. Have a clear structure
- Introduction and conclusion (INTRO/DONE)
- 2-3 distinct points
- Clear transitions
2. Develop and utilize effective speaking notes
- Professional in appearance
- Avoid distraction
- Navigate efficiently
3. Demonstrate a basic level of competence in public speaking
- Sufficient eye contact
- Use of appropriate nonverbal delivery
- Mostly avoid vocal fillers and fidgets
- Utilize some vocal dynamics
Time Expectations: 3-4 Minutes
Tips for Success
- Practice your speech more than once
- Practice to a pretend audience or a real audience you trust
- Be confident, this is a “low stakes” speech so there should be little pressure
